They are quiet underway, deliver better-than-average handling, and perform nicely when equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmission. The styling is simple, elegant and understated. Chrysler has come a long way with these cars. A 4-speed automatic transmission is standard on the lx, but we recommend opting for the 6-speed automatic. the chrysler 200 limited features a 3. 6-liter v6 good for 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. A 6-speed automatic is standard. The cabin is very quiet thanks to ample sound absorption materials, an acoustic glass windshield and laminated side glass usually found in higher priced vehicles. The instrument panel's gray-on-gray graphics are pleasing, and its white accent lighting is wonderful at night, with nice ambient cockpit lighting. because the chrysler 200 is smaller than many midsize cars, rear legroom suffers a bit, as does cargo space on hardtop models. Surprisingly, though, the convertible's trunk is relatively roomy, thanks to an efficient storage design for the drop-top. although the chrysler 200 sedan is a perfectly capable vehicle, it's overshadowed by many models in the class that have been redesigned or refreshed in the past year or two, including the ford fusion, honda accord, nissan altima, and toyota camry. Other competitors worth considering include the chevrolet malibu, kia optima and hyundai sonata. Of all of these, the chrysler 200 has the most old-school feel. Convertible competitors are less plentiful. The ford mustang and chevrolet camaro are more performance-oriented. Standard wheels are 17-inch alloys, with two 18-inch wheel designs optional. Standard features include leather heated front seats, a six-speaker boston acoustics audio system and fog lamps. It bears family resemblance to the town and country minivan, particularly noticeable in the headlamps, air intakes and front bumper. The chrysler 200 front air dam is clean: low, thin, and horizontal. Its halogen headlights appear small from head-on, but flow around the front corners into the bulging fenders, creating a line that widens to the rear of the car. It's bold, but not fancy. the rear deck lid looks chopped, with a chrome strip between led taillamps and another chrome bar between the exhaust outlets that widens the look of the car. It bears a wing logo in brushed metal and blue. interiorthe chrysler 200 cabin is nice, with seat coverings and trim that feel soft and luxurious. The seats feel supportive and should be comfortable for long periods behind the wheel. rear legroom measures just 36. 2 inches, which is on the short side for a midsize car. Toyota camry and ford fusion offer 38. 3 inches of rear legroom, by comparison, though the chrysler edges the lexus es, at 35. 9. The rear seat is split 60/40 and folds down for more cargo space, which is always appreciated. the instrument panel contains the usual three round gauges, with gray-on-gray graphics that are pleasing to the eye, while its white accent lighting is wonderful at night. The three-spoke steering wheel has a thick leather-wrapped rim and padded hub with controls for the sound system and cruise setting. Armrests are soft, and door pockets roomy. With dual variable valve timing, the power is good at both low and high rpm, and its 166 foot-pounds of torque are sufficient for the demands of its owners. Even the convertible feels like it's put together well. We noticed very little road noise, and the ride was smooth and solid. The chrysler 200 also corners really well, with little body roll. the 6-speed automatic transmission is seamless and not over-programmed. We strongly recommend it over the 4-speed automatic that comes standard on the base model. the optional v6 engine makes 283 horsepower and 260 foot-pounds of torque. Lower price of entry for a very versatile vehicle. introductionchrysler says its pacifica can't be binned into any existing automotive category. Indeed, the chrysler pacifica can't be neatly classified as a minivan, suv, or station wagon. It does represent a new kind of six-seat family conveyance. pacifica combines the best elements of chrysler's sporty sedans and pioneering minivans and enhances them with mercedes-benz engineering. Pacifica was introduced as a totally new vehicle for 2004. For 2005, the price of entry has dropped with the addition of a new entry model: the five-seat front-wheel-drive model is aggressively priced below $25,000 msrp. pacifica doesn't look like other crossovers, a term usually applied to vehicles that blur the lines between car and sport utility. The pacifica is roomy and comfortable, whether upholstered in fabric or leather, easy to get in to and out of. On the road, pacifica is smooth and quiet, with a rear suspension that comes from a mercedes e-class sedan. All-wheel drive is available, making the pacifica a good choice for the snow country. Another package adds to above package: five supplemental side curtain airbags; automatic headlamps; memory settings for outside mirrors, stereo presets, driver seat and pedals; auto-dim driver and inside mirror; heated and fold-away outside mirrors; and heated front and second row seats 2280). standard safety features comprise dual, multi-stage frontal airbags; driver-side inflatable knee bolster; three-point seatbelts at all seating positions and front seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters; and child safety seat anchors. Its design is less radical than that of the nissan murano and infiniti fx45 crossovers, and its glass-to-steel proportions are new and different. Yet the pacifica looks unmistakably like a chrysler, a result of its grille and other design cues traceable to the chrysler town & country. the pacifica doesn't look that big from the outside yet it's as much as 18 inches longer and 6 inches wider than some of its crossover competitors. At the same time, the pacifica is almost 3 inches lower to the ground than a typical minivan, and that makes it easier to climb inside. The expanse of sheet metal aft of the rear side doors adds visual mass that looks ungainly, but this isn't reflected in the pacifica's handling. the chrysler pacifica is rife with mercedes-benz parts and technologies, including a complete rear suspension system borrowed from the mercedes e-class sedan. The cloth upholstery in the new five-passenger model is nice and looks more expensive than expected. Between them is a center console trimmed in a soft-touch material that gives it a quality feel. There's a pair of cup holders conveniently located immediately aft of the shifter and they work well; fortunately, the german influence only goes where it's beneficial. Redundant controls for the cruise control and sound system are conveniently integrated into the steering wheel spokes. the instrument panel is done as one swooping enclosure that goes from the back of the left door around to the back of the right front door. The dash features a major hood and a minor hood to keep the sun off the instrument faces. Under the sweeping hood, there's an interesting-looking set of instruments and controls; when the optional navigation system is ordered, the display is positioned right in the center of the speedometer, exactly where it should be for safest use. The dvd-based navigation system is set up and run by a circular switch panel to the right of the steering wheel. heating and air conditioning controls seemed fussy at first, but we loved having the auto hi and auto lo switches for those times when we don't want the climate control blasting away at full fan speed. All power windows can be lowered at once by pressing one button. There's a nice analog clock for quickly telling time. They're not quite as cushy as the front-row seats, but we found them roomy and comfortable. Between them is a center console similar to the one in front, with a similarly elegant center console with cup holders as the one in front. Fan controls and vents, a power plug and a tray for a bag are provided to keep back-seat passengers content. The five-passenger model's second-row seat is a bench-type and splits 65/35. We found it easy to fold the second-row seats down the first time out. The seatback tips down then the seat tumbles forward. Think of this as a big sports sedan. introductionchrysler's advertising campaign recalls the legendary 'letter cars' the company sold from 1955 to 1965. But the chrysler 300m provides a much better driving experience than those cars could ever hope to offer. The 300m is a joy to drive. Chrysler's new ad campaign was created to appeal to driving enthusiasts and build on the heritage of the letter cars. Counting through the alphabet from the 1956 300b to the 1965 300l (there was no 300i), they were fitted with high-performance v8 engines and, for a time, ruled the great horsepower race. They introduced the latest innovations: cross ram dual quads, new suspensions, limited-slips, swiveling bucket seats, center consoles, tachometers, pushbutton automatics. Chrysler's 1955 300 won 23 of 45 nascar races. The 1956 300b came with a 354-cubic-inch hemi engine and won five straight nascar races. Other models competed at le mans and ran events such as the carrera panamerica, a mad cross-country rally through mexico. believe the retro ads. Designed as an american sports sedan, the chrysler 300m is a contemporary interpretation of those historic letter cars. Chrysler's 300m competes with the cadillac catera, lexus es 300, infiniti i30, and the lincoln ls. lineupone model is available. Retailing for $29,085, the 300m comes with a 3. 5-liter v6 and autostick transmission. Short overhangs, a high rear deck and big taillamps make 300m more appealing to a european eye. An aggressive front end says, 'get out of my way' when seen in a rearview mirror. the 300m is shorter than the lhs. Part of the reason for this is that chrysler plans to export it to 30 international markets, including germany, spain, switzerland, sweden and brazil. Keeping the length under 5 meters makes it more attractive to the european countries, allowing it to fit into garages and parking spaces. unique to 300m and lhs is a 3. 5-liter high-output aluminum v6 that delivers 253 horsepower and 255 foot-pounds of torque. Designed to emulate torque characteristics of classic american v8s, it features 24 valves and single overhead cams. It delivers an 18-percent increase in power over the cast-iron engine it replaces. Mid-grade 89-octane gasoline delivers the best performance, but it will run fine on 87 octane. 300m comes standard with chrysler's autostick transmission, which gives the driver a choice of conventional automatic operation or a more performance-oriented manual control. the suspension is shared with chrysler's lhs, but the 300m is tuned more aggressively. A new brake system provides better pedal feel, improved stopping performance with less noise and vibration from the abs. Electronic traction control is also standard for improved control when accelerating on slippery surfaces. The suspension tuning is designed for a more controlled ride, sharper steering response, improved stability in transient maneuvers and increased cornering grip. The michelins should provide better cornering traction on dry and wet roads, but may not perform quite as well on snow and ice. The brakes are designed to increase stopping ability, enhance pedal feel and resist brake fade in hard use. interior300m's interior was designed to be functional, yet inviting, with the purposeful look of a performance sedan. Simple flowing shapes grace the interior. The dash is sleeker, more organic, and less cluttered than a cadillac catera. The 300m interior shares most elements with the lhs, but some of the details, such as the shifter surround, are more elegant in the 300m. Surfaces are soft to the touch for a luxurious feel. No seams are visible where the passenger airbag resides. Elegant white-faced analog gauges, surrounded by a thin chrome bezel, use electroluminescent lighting. Stylish typefaces give them a classic look and an attractive analog clock in the center of the dash carries the theme through. The trunk hinges were designed to not intrude into the cargo space when the trunk lid is closed. Details like that make life seem just a bit more luxurious. in addition to abs and traction control, safety features on the 300m include next-generation front air bags and child-protection rear door locks. The doors lock automatically once underway (though they can be programmed not to do this). Child seat-top tether anchors have been added to the rear shelf panel. An anti-theft system comes standard. cup holders were added for the rear seats in the center armrest of 2000 models. Power window and power door lock switches are now chrome colored; and the power mirror switches have been color keyed. driving impressionthis is a full-size sports sedan. The 300m feels very stable at high speeds. The steering is direct and precise. The ride quality is smooth, yet the car feels connected to the road-it doesn't isolate the driver from what's going on. We felt confident on a wet, winding road through georgia's chattahoochie national forest in spite of vertical drops on the outsides of the turns. plenty of power is on tap for accelerating off the line, climbing mountain roads and passing other cars. The engine is smooth and quiet, but growls when provoked. A broad torque curve means it's ready to provide instant throttle response at any speed. Chrysler's autostick is entertaining on the daily commute and gives the driver better control on winding roads. Usually, though, we found normal automatic operation the best way to go. Steering response is also slightly quicker than the lhs. 300m noise and vibration are not quite at lexus levels; a small amount of wind noise can be heard and a bit of road vibration comes through. By comparison, the cadillac catera's suspension feels a bit firmer, but transmits more road vibration through to the occupants. we drove 300m models with and without the optional handling package in back-to-back runs up and down a gnarly mountain road and found the performance benefit barely perceptible. The one equipped with the handling package seemed to transmit slightly more vibration into the seats and steering wheel. Hard bumps felt just a bit sharper. And there was slightly more road noise, presumably generated by the performance tires. The 300m is a sports sedan with performance and handling that belies its size. An exciting exterior design and an elegant interior with all the creature comforts add to its appeal.
